The sound of boots crushing against rocks pervaded the chilly air. It was 2 A.M.

“Good afternoon, professor! May I borrow your Bunsen burner?”
The professor turned around and looked at the unfamiliar face entering the lab. “What? Who are you?”
Kim raised his eyebrows and flashed a hurt expression before switching back to a sincere one. “Uh, one of your students, sir.”
The professor squinted, trying to conjure any vague memory. “Oh. Well, I’m sorry. I don’t—”
The student raised up a hand. “Yeah. It’s no problem. I understand. See a lot of faces everyday at your lectures.”
“Right. Well, sorry, um…”
“Kyle. I’m an exchange student. Transferred here last month.”
“Right, Kyle. Sorry, but the lab equipment isn’t for personal use.”
“A minute, sir. Can’t hurt to heat a beaker of water, can it? It’s for lunch.”
“…No…Okay, but no funny ideas, alright?” The professor turned back to his work.
Kyle grinned. ”You have my word, professor.”

It was good that Kim was in Italy at the time. Back at home, the other home, it would have taken a fifteen hour flight to Venice. He had been acting as a student in the university for an investigation.
Always one for nice entrances, Kim arrived at the island hours before the meeting. He made sure his arrival to the shore went unnoticed, prancing through blind spots of the security cameras and guards. A few meows later, he made it into the villa. It would be another ten hours til the meeting begins. “Better get comfortable,” he muttered and sunk into the darkness of the room.
What is your favorite kind of baked good?
Apple pie! Eat it freshly baked with vanilla ice cream. Oh, I’m drooling now. Excuse me.
Your favourite type of pasta??
Spaghetti with meat sauce. Easy to make. Childhood favorite. Onions, tomatoes, basil, bay leaf, ground beef, slice of cheese and all that good stuff. Mmm.

After Kim sent the texts to his underlings, he made his way across campus toward the Science building. Once he entered the air-conditioned, fluorescent-lighted halls, he felt the vibration notifying a new text in his pocket. “Sweet freedom,” he muttered and grinned at the brief message. He proceeded through the empty corridor and into a laboratory. “Good afternoon, professor! May I borrow your Bunsen burner?”
